Imaging software for mac. For a while I wanted to extend the range of my ATT U-Verse wireless router. I searched the various web forums and all responses seemed overly complicated and I gave up and kept our configuration which has limited wireless in our family room

My requirements were very simple.

So in talking with a relative this Thanksgiving he mentioned how easy it was to setup the Apple Airports. So that got me thinking again about extending the WiFi range in the house. Then it dawned on me.

I knew that each ATT-Uverse set top box has an Ethernet port on the back. If you plug in to that port with a laptop you have a 'wired' Ethernet connection. I have been using this feature for a while now (TV, DVD player, Apple TV) for all my items that 'require' internet. I simply plug into the U-Verse receiver and then plug into a switch for multiple internet ready devices.

In any event, I plugged the Airport Express to the back of the U-verse receiver then went through the setup process and presto, I have wireless internet. I had to configure my 'security' features but that was no big deal. Next went to my upstairs and plugged in the 2nd airport express to the back of the U-verse receiver and this was even easier. All configurations from the 1st airport was transferred to the 2nd without doing a thing. The setup of the 2nd literally took a one minute wait on my end.

I then connected to the Airport Express and tested. Sure enough I had internet access and strong signal all over the house moving from room to room I had a very strong signal wherever I went. I then tested to ensure I could connect to the U-Verse router itself (using the 192.168 address in my web browser) using the Airport Express as the WIFI hub. Yes that worked out as well. I then 'disabled' my U-Verse wireless transmitter (via the system software on the U-Verse router). So the U-Verse Internet gateway is handling my routing and all things phone and TV related but NOT my wireless.

So in summary:

EXTREMELY EASY to setup a Airport Express with U-Verse simply plug into the Ethernet port on a U-Verse receiver.
U-Verse still does the 'routing' and the Airport Express handles the wireless
Wireless security in Airport Express uses WPA2 vs WPA in the Uverse Wireless. MAC address filtering and turning off SSID broadcast can still be implemented in the Airport Express
Configuring a 2nd airport express is even easier than configuring the 1st one.

Apple really made this VERY EASY.

At&t U-Verse – Live TV & VOD

As you might have already guessed, the At&t U-Verse is a U-Verse subscribers-limited application. If you have a U-verse account linked with the At&t services, it’s time to go wireless with their U-Verse application.

The U-Verse application can be used remotely to watch live TV channels, video-on-demand, or to access your U-verse favorites. The application will let you manage your DVR and will also work as the remote control.
